Irish Rugby tackles life without wires

Bitbuzz, Ireland's leading Wi-Fi network, today announced its continued support of the Irish Rugby team by providing the Irish squad with access to its national Wi-Fi network once again for the duration of the autumn internationals and the 6 nations championship.

Shane Deasy, Bitbuzz's managing director commented, "Bitbuzz are delighted to be able to provide this service to the Irish rugby team. Since the start of our partnership we have seen the demand for our service continue to grow as the players increasingly need to keep in contact with their family and friends during the international campaigns. With Bitbuzz the players can access the Internet at broadband speeds from a large number of hotels and other public venues throughout the country".

 Bitbuzz celebrates its third year

Bitbuzz, Ireland's leading Independent and only Irish owned Wi-Fi network, has announced that it was celebrating three years trading.

"Wi-Fi is a relatively new technology but has become a vital way to access the Internet for people conducting business here in Ireland. We work in a very fast moving and competitive industry and we are delighted to be entering our fourth year in business." said Shane Deasy, Managing Director of Bitbuzz. "The usage of laptops in Ireland has soared as the working population becomes more mobile. Laptops are a hugely powerful business tool but they need to be connected to the Internet to deliver real benefits."

Bitbuzz started business in 2003 and has now entered a new stage of growth and will be announcing some strategic developments and new services in the forthcoming weeks. Deasy believes there are a number of reasons for Bitbuzz's extraordinary growth. "We have always adopted a culture of working with our location partners to promote their business to the 35,000 registered users of Bitbuzz. The flip side of the coin is that we have built a high quality network of over 100 premium hotspots where our customers can connect seamlessly to the Internet".

Deasy adds "The core of our success is a great team of dedicated colleagues supported by a very strong Board with a vast range of experience. Our people are the key ingredient to the great Bitbuzz story!"

Alex French, Bitbuzz's Operations Director commented "Wi-Fi has become acknowledged as an affordable, reliable service with exceptionally fast speeds and easy to use for the customer. Manufacturers of mobile phones, PDA’s and even gaming consoles are rapidly rolling out ever more Wi-Fi enabled devices to the market. The reason for this quite simply is that Wi-Fi works, and works very well!"

BT Ireland plays with Nintendos Wifi strength

A revolution is underway in the worlds of Wi-Fi and gaming. Nintendo is bringing Wi-Fi technology into play in Ireland with a new groundbreaking deal with BT Openzone.

The service allows anyone to play against friends and family across the globe simply, safely and best of all - for free!

To ensure that anyone really can play against others from all over the world with their Nintendo DS, the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection can be accessed in any one of three ways:

1. Gamers will be able to visit any one of over 270 BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspots at locations across the island of Ireland. These include Insomnia and O’Brien’s coffee houses, Hilton, Ramada International Worldwide, Hastings and Cara Hotels, Maxol Service stations, Belfast and Cork Airports, BT Payphones as well as many more hotpots. By logging onto www.btopenzone.ie you can find the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection hotspots closest to you.

2. Nintendo will also be installing BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspots into major video games retailers such as GAME, HMV, GameStop and Smyths Toys in addition to other key outlets across Ireland, meaning it really is possible to game anywhere!

3. Gamers with a broadband internet connection at home will be able to enjoy the free, simple and safe Wi-Fi gaming service, you simply need a Wi-Fi access point or hotspot, like a Wi-Fi wireless router, and an active broadband internet connection. If you do not have a wireless access point, you can purchase a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector from any major video games retailer for around €40 which plugs into a PC and automatically sets up a connection for you.

Nintendo’s Wi-Fi gaming service is free - there are no fees or subscriptions to pay. It’s incredibly easy to use - you simply turn it on and select Wi-Fi, there are no complicated menu screens and minimum configurations required and most importantly Nintendo’s Wi-Fi Connection service is a safe environment for players.

Players have the option to select to play with just friends, or people of a similar skill level around the world without fear of harassment. Players do not have direct communication with each other when playing anonymously and therefore personnel details or inappropriate comments cannot be exchanged.

Chris Clark, CEO of Converged Mobility Operations, BT said: "Wi-Fi is increasingly becoming part of everyone's lives, whether you are a business traveller, a professional working away from the office or now someone who enjoys playing games on consoles against people round the world. We are delighted to be working with Nintendo on this partnership which will broaden the appeal of Wi-Fi from the business into the consumer market.

We believe the future for Wi-Fi is that people will be able to access the internet, their corporate networks and their games consoles any time, anywhere using whatever device they have."
